API Holdings has become debt-free after repaying ₹1050 crore, funded by selling part of its Thyrocare stake.

Mumbai: API Holdings, the parent company of diagnostic firm Thyrocare Technologies, announced that it has successfully eliminated its debt burden by repaying ₹1050 crore. This significant financial move was made possible through the sale of a portion of its stake in Thyrocare Technologies, along with internal accruals.

Strategic Stake Sale

Docon Technologies Private Limited, a subsidiary of API Holdings, sold 1,57,69,696 shares of Thyrocare, which equates to approximately 9.90% of the company's paid-up equity share capital. Following this transaction, Docon Technologies retains a 51.02% stake in Thyrocare, ensuring it remains the promoter and holding company.

The sale not only facilitated the debt repayment but also released the pledge on Docon's remaining Thyrocare shares. This move leaves Docon's entire 51.02% holding in the diagnostics firm fully unencumbered.

Financial Discipline and Growth

Alok Kumar Jagnani, Whole-Time Director and Group CFO of API Holdings, emphasized the company's strategic approach to maintaining its ownership in Thyrocare. "We’ve repaid our term debt in full, and we did it the hard way, without diluting our stake in Thyrocare below 51%. That’s the real headline: a stronger balance sheet without giving up our ownership," he stated.

Jagnani further highlighted the company's financial discipline, noting that all businesses within the group are on track to become profitable. "With every business in the group soon profitable, there’s no drag left on the P&L; just a clean base to build from," he added.

Implications for the Future

This debt clearance marks a significant milestone for API Holdings, positioning it for future growth and stability. The company's ability to repay its debt without compromising its controlling interest in Thyrocare demonstrates a balanced approach to capital allocation. This move is likely to enhance investor confidence and provide a solid foundation for future strategic initiatives.

As the healthcare and diagnostics sectors continue to evolve, API Holdings' strengthened financial position could enable it to explore new opportunities and expand its market presence. The company's focus on maintaining a robust balance sheet while fostering growth underscores its commitment to sustainable business practices.
