AIIMS Workshop Aims to Enhance Health Education for Cardiometabolic Diseases

AIIMS New Delhi gathers experts to improve education and preparedness for cardiometabolic diseases.
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi recently hosted a workshop focused on enhancing health education for cardiometabolic diseases (CMDs). This event, orchestrated by AIIMS's Centre of Excellence under the leadership of Prof. Nikhil Tandon and Ambuj Roy, is part of the Partnership for Education of Health Professionals (PEP) programme.
Gathering of Experts and Policymakers
The workshop brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including Advisory Committee members, subject-matter experts, Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) State Nodal Officers, and representatives from prominent institutions such as the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the National Health Systems Resource Centre (NHSRC). Faculty from various academic institutions also participated to reflect on the findings from the project's formative phase and to plan future initiatives.
Focus on Education and Implementation
During the workshop, discussions centered around pre-service and in-service education, implementation priorities, training needs, and potential challenges in the field of CMD education. One of the primary objectives was to gather diverse perspectives and co-create strategies that will enhance CMD education for health professionals across India.
The event emphasized transforming evidence and stakeholder experiences into practical approaches aimed at building capacity and improving the preparedness of health professionals to tackle the increasing burden of cardiometabolic diseases. This is crucial as CMDs, which include conditions like diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, represent a significant healthcare challenge in India.
Strategic Planning for Future Steps
The collaborative effort also aimed at identifying gaps in the current educational framework and exploring innovative solutions to address these gaps. By bringing together a wide range of experts and stakeholders, AIIMS seeks to ensure that the strategies developed are comprehensive and inclusive, taking into account the diverse needs of the Indian healthcare system.
Prof. Nikhil Tandon, speaking at the workshop, highlighted the importance of such collaborative initiatives in creating a robust educational framework that can adapt to the evolving challenges posed by CMDs. The workshop represents a significant step forward in AIIMS's ongoing efforts to strengthen health education and improve outcomes for patients suffering from cardiometabolic diseases.
