AIIMS Workshop Aims to Enhance Health Education for Cardiometabolic Diseases

AIIMS New Delhi hosts a workshop to improve education on cardiometabolic diseases, uniting experts and policymakers.
In a concerted effort to tackle the rising burden of cardiometabolic diseases (CMDs) in India, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi has convened a workshop focused on strengthening health professional education. The event, organized by the AIIMS Centre of Excellence for the Education of Health Professionals, is part of the Partnership for Education of Health Professionals (PEP) programme and is led by Professors Nikhil Tandon and Ambuj Roy.
Gathering of Experts and Policymakers
The workshop is bringing together a diverse group of stakeholders, including Advisory Committee members, subject-matter experts, and NCD State Nodal Officers. Representatives from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the National Health Systems Resource Centre (NHSRC), and various academic institutions are also in attendance. This assembly aims to reflect on findings from the project's formative phase and to strategize for future initiatives.
Focus on Education and Training
Discussions at the workshop are centered around pre-service and in-service education, identifying implementation priorities, assessing training needs, and addressing potential challenges. By highlighting these areas, the workshop seeks to gather diverse perspectives and collaboratively design approaches to enhance CMD education for health professionals across the country. The ultimate goal is to translate evidence and stakeholder experiences into practical strategies that build capacity and improve preparedness to address CMDs.
Addressing Cardiometabolic Diseases
Cardiometabolic diseases, which include a range of conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome, are a growing public health concern in India. The workshop underscores the importance of equipping health professionals with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively manage and prevent these diseases. By strengthening health education, AIIMS aims to improve health outcomes and reduce the burden of CMDs on the healthcare system.
This initiative is part of AIIMS's broader commitment to enhancing healthcare education and fostering collaborations between experts and policymakers. The insights and strategies developed during the workshop are expected to inform future educational programs and initiatives aimed at combating CMDs in India.
