AIIMS Workshop Aims to Enhance Education on Cardiometabolic Diseases

AIIMS Delhi hosts a workshop to improve health education strategies for cardiometabolic diseases, gathering experts and stakeholders.
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi recently convened a workshop focused on advancing health education for cardiometabolic diseases. The event, part of the Partnership for Education of Health Professionals (PEP) programme, was spearheaded by the institution's Centre of Excellence under the guidance of Prof. Nikhil Tandon and Ambuj Roy.
Gathering of Experts and Stakeholders
The workshop brought together a diverse group of participants including Advisory Committee members, subject-matter experts, NCD State Nodal Officers, and representatives from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the National Health Systems Resource Centre (NHSRC). Faculty from various academic institutions also joined to contribute insights and expertise.
The primary aim was to reflect on the findings from the project's formative phase and collaboratively develop strategies to strengthen education for health professionals dealing with cardiometabolic diseases (CMDs) across India.
Focus on Education and Implementation
Discussion topics included pre-service and in-service education, implementation priorities, and identifying training needs. Participants also addressed potential challenges in the field. The workshop emphasized transforming evidence and stakeholder experiences into practical approaches that enhance capacity building and improve preparedness among health professionals.
The rising prevalence of cardiometabolic diseases, which include conditions like heart disease, diabetes, and obesity, underscores the necessity for improved educational frameworks. These diseases pose significant health burdens, and effective education is critical for developing a workforce capable of managing and mitigating these conditions.
Charting the Path Forward
The workshop's collaborative approach is expected to yield actionable strategies that can be implemented across various healthcare settings. By co-designing these strategies, the participants aim to create robust educational programs that not only equip health professionals with the necessary skills but also foster a deeper understanding of CMDs.
AIIMS's initiative highlights the importance of continuous dialogue and collaboration among different stakeholders to address complex health challenges. The outcomes of this workshop are anticipated to contribute significantly to the national effort in combating cardiometabolic diseases through enhanced education and training of health professionals.
