AIIMS Workshop Aims to Enhance Cardiometabolic Health Education

AIIMS New Delhi spearheads a workshop to advance education in cardiometabolic diseases, uniting experts and policymakers.
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, has initiated a pivotal workshop dedicated to improving health education for cardiometabolic diseases. This event, organized under the Partnership for Education of Health Professionals (PEP) programme, is a concerted effort to address the rising burden of these conditions in India through enhanced educational strategies.
Bringing Together Diverse Expertise
Led by Professors Nikhil Tandon and Ambuj Roy, the Centre of Excellence for the Education of Health Professionals at AIIMS has gathered a wide range of participants. These include policymakers, programme leaders, academic partners, members of the Advisory Committee, and experts from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and National Health Systems Resource Centre (NHSRC). The workshop is a platform for these stakeholders to share insights and develop coordinated strategies.
The meeting is designed to be a collaborative forum where participants can discuss the findings from the project's initial phase. The focus is on assessing current educational practices and identifying areas where improvements can be made to better prepare health professionals in tackling cardiometabolic diseases.
Focus on Education and Training
Key discussions revolve around both pre-service and in-service education, with an emphasis on implementation priorities and training needs. The workshop aims to identify potential challenges and devise solutions that can be integrated into the education of health professionals across the nation.
By translating evidence and stakeholder experiences into practical approaches, the workshop seeks to build capacity and strengthen the overall quality of health professions education. This is crucial for improving preparedness among healthcare providers to address the growing prevalence of cardiometabolic diseases, which include conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular diseases.
Future Directions in Health Education
The outcomes of this workshop are expected to guide future initiatives in health education. By co-designing approaches with input from a broad spectrum of experts, AIIMS aims to create a robust framework that can be scaled and adapted to different regions and contexts within India.
As cardiometabolic diseases continue to pose significant public health challenges, the need for effective education and training of health professionals becomes increasingly urgent. The efforts by AIIMS and its partners highlight a proactive approach to addressing these challenges through strategic education reform.
