AIIMS New Delhi hosts a workshop to enhance education on cardiometabolic diseases, gathering experts and policymakers.
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi recently convened a significant workshop aimed at enhancing health education for cardiometabolic diseases. The event, organized under the Partnership for Education of Health Professionals (PEP) programme, was spearheaded by the Centre of Excellence led by Prof. Nikhil Tandon and Ambuj Roy.
Gathering Experts and Policymakers
The workshop brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including Advisory Committee members, subject-matter experts, NCD State Nodal Officers, representatives from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), and the National Health Systems Resource Centre (NHSRC). Faculty from various academic institutions also participated, reflecting on the findings from the project's formative phase and discussing future strategies.
The primary focus of the discussions was on pre-service and in-service education, identifying implementation priorities, assessing training needs, and addressing potential challenges. By incorporating diverse perspectives, the initiative aims to co-design approaches that can effectively strengthen education for health professionals dealing with cardiometabolic diseases across India.
Addressing the Growing Burden
Cardiometabolic diseases, which include conditions like diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, are on the rise globally, and India is no exception. The workshop's core objective is to translate evidence and stakeholder experiences into actionable strategies that build capacity and improve preparedness among health professionals to tackle these diseases.
Prof. Nikhil Tandon emphasized the importance of such collaborative efforts in enhancing the quality of health education. He noted that by fostering a robust educational framework, health professionals can be better equipped to manage the increasing burden of cardiometabolic diseases.
Future Directions
As the workshop concluded, participants expressed optimism about the future of health education in India. The insights gained and the collaborative spirit witnessed during the event are expected to drive significant improvements in the way cardiometabolic diseases are addressed through education.
The AIIMS workshop represents a proactive step towards strengthening India's healthcare system by ensuring that health professionals are well-prepared to meet the challenges presented by cardiometabolic diseases. This initiative is a testament to the critical role of education in improving health outcomes and addressing public health challenges.
