AIIMS Madurai to Launch Full OPD Services by January 2027, Court Informed

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Madurai is set to commence its full-fledged outpatient department (OPD) services on January 1, 2027. Madras High Court Closes Public Interest Litigation
The announcement follows the dismissal of a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by K Pushpavanam of Madurai. The PIL, initiated in 2021, sought the establishment of a temporary campus for outpatient care and the commencement of MBBS courses. The court, led by Chief Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari and Justice C V Karthikeyan, took note of the Centre’s submission, effectively closing the case.
The petitioner had argued that while AIIMS facilities in other locations such as Bibinagar, Guwahati, and Rajkot were already operational with OPD services and MBBS classes, AIIMS Madurai had yet to see similar progress. The central government initially announced the establishment of AIIMS Madurai in 2018, with a subsequent gazette notification issued in 2020.
Preparations Underway for January 2027 Launch
