AIIMS Bhopal Enhances Digital Access with New Specialized Facilities

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhopal has taken significant steps to enhance its digital services by introducing 'AIIMS Bhopal WhatsApp Health Services'. This new initiative allows patients to manage various hospital services through WhatsApp, minimizing the need for physical visits. Patients can now register for outpatient department (OPD) appointments, link their ABHA health ID, access laboratory reports, obtain birth and death certificates, view discharge summaries, check billing details, and make OPD-related inquiries using this platform.

New Digital Service for Patient Convenience

Launched under the leadership of Dr. Narendra Kotwal, the newly appointed director of AIIMS Bhopal, the WhatsApp service operates 24/7. It is designed to provide convenience to patients who previously had to travel to the hospital for routine tasks such as booking appointments or collecting reports. This digital shift is part of AIIMS Bhopal's broader strategy to offer streamlined healthcare services.

Expansion of Specialized Medical Facilities

In addition to digital advancements, AIIMS Bhopal is also expanding its specialized medical and diagnostic services. Plans are underway to introduce a PET-CT machine, Gamma Knife facility, and robotic surgery capabilities by the end of 2026. These additions aim to enhance the hospital's ability to offer advanced treatment options.

Furthermore, the hospital is working on establishing a second cardiac catheterisation laboratory (cath lab), with the goal of having two cath labs, two MRI machines, and two linear accelerators (LINACs) operational by next year. The institution is also advancing towards a paperless environment by nearing the completion of procuring a Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS), which will allow electronic access to diagnostic images and reports.

Innovations in Diagnostic and Treatment Facilities

AIIMS Bhopal is progressing with the procurement of a virtual autopsy center, which will utilize CT scans to examine internal injuries, offering significant benefits for handling accident cases and legal investigations. Additionally, an extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy facility for treating kidney and urinary tract stones is set to be operational within two months, enabling non-invasive treatment options for patients.

These developments are part of AIIMS Bhopal's comprehensive plan to integrate advanced technology with healthcare services, ensuring both improved patient access and the expansion of specialized medical care.
