During the All India Conference for Young Hematologists Orientation Program (YHOP) at King George’s Medical University in Lucknow, specialists discussed the integration of AI tools in clinical settings.
AI's Role in Hematology
The conference brought together final-year DM clinical hematology scholars from across the nation to explore the role of AI in diagnosing and treating blood disorders. Experts emphasized AI's ability to analyze vast clinical datasets, identify patterns, and predict disease progression. These capabilities can significantly support treatment planning, ensuring more personalized and effective patient care.
However, experts stressed the importance of maintaining clinical judgment at the forefront of patient care. The integration of AI should enhance, not replace, the critical decision-making skills of healthcare professionals.

The two-day program also addressed essential topics such as medical ethics, palliative care, and patient counseling. Participants were guided on effective communication with families of seriously ill patients and the importance of accurate clinical documentation. Prof. Soniya Nityananda, Vice-Chancellor of KGMU, noted, “AI is becoming an important part of modern medicine. Its use in hematology can support diagnosis and treatment decisions, but doctors must ensure that technology is used responsibly and remains focused on patient care.”
Preparing for the Future
The orientation program aimed to equip graduating specialists with the skills needed for consultant-level roles in both government and private hospitals. As AI becomes more prevalent in specialized blood disorder care, the combination of AI tools with clinical expertise and ethical decision-making will be crucial.
